Have you ever been out of battery when you needed your phone the most? Perhaps when you needed to navigate in a new city, or maybe while waiting for an important call, or an important message. Or going camping or to a music festival, and still want to be able to write notes or take pictures with your smartphone or camera after several days or weeks.
Never run out of power again! All you need is sunlight, and HeLi-on! The embedded solar panels directly convert solar energy into electricity, which is stored in a battery or used directly to charge your device, via a standard USB connection.
HeLi-on is the first solar charger using flexible polymer solar cells, also known as organic solar cells or OPVs. This technology is the result of more than fifteen years of research into a new revolutionary, flexible and lightweight solar cell. These solar panels have a very low environmental impact as no use of neither toxic nor scarce materials is included in the production. The ultra flexible solar cells are printed directly on thin plastic foil using optimized printing machines. The solar panels are fabricated in large scale and high speed using printing machines similar to newspapers or packaging printing machines and do not need multi-million dollar facilities as used in traditional silicon PV technology.
The company behind HeLi-on is infinityPV, a Danish company specialized on selling solar panels, materials and equipment related to the technology. The CEO, Frederik C. Krebs, is one of the most renowned scientists in the field, with more than 400 publications in scientific journals. This product is truly a fusion of modern science with a useful application. HeLi-on will provide an outstanding contribution to the world of the mobile chargers, looking just as a battery charger, but giving so much more.
The product launched on Kickstarter, with a starting price of $90 for the white edition, including solar panels, a 2600 mAh battery, and free international shipping. The project already reached more than 80% of its funding goal.
