In January 2010, the companies and research institutes PolyIC, Evonik Industries, TNO and IMEC launched a project called ORICLA sponsored by the EU within the framework of the FP7 (IST) funding program.
 
This project will advance the development of printable radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for mass applications. ORICLA will set the global standard for RFID

performance with organic electronics implemented on large-scale substrates. PolyIC is the first company to present RFID tags manufactured using roll-to-roll processes.
 
The ORCILA project produced the world's first RFID circuit made using low-temperature thin-film technology which enables reader-talks-first communication.

For the first time, this method enables anti-collision systems for RFID tags to be produced using low-temperature thin-film technology.
 
PolyIC's responsibilities within the ORICLA project include the development and description of specifications for the developed technologies, readers and antennae for demonstrators, reliability testing and assessments (market analysis, cost calculations, business planning, recycling etc.).
