The original concept of the fuel cell 160 years ago, when Sir Charles Groves invented the device was for continuous fuel feeding giving continuous electricity without use of moving parts. Now it is envisaged in miniature form as something refueled by a cartridge like the old fountain pen cartridges or just as a throwaway. Some concepts are laminar and partially printed. As an example of companies working on thin fuel cells consider MTI MicroFuel Cells Incorporated (aka MTI Micro).

It is a subsidiary of Mechanical Technology Incorporated. It makes small fuel cells (coated membranes but probably not conventional printed electronics) for portable electronics and mobile phones.
