Plextronics, Inc. has hired two new professionals to focus on manufacturing operations and quality management.
Michael Woolston joined Plextronics' senior management team as Vice President of Operations. Don Hodo came on board as the company's Quality Manager.
Both will focus on the company's expanding manufacturing capabilities, Woolston from the operations and strategic development perspective and Hodo from the quality management systems and process improvement perspective.
According to Andy Hannah, Plextronics' CEO, "Our customers demand manufacturing excellence and quality products so it's critical to have strong leaders in place to head up those two areas. We hired Mike and Don because they have the experience and talent we need as we begin shipping larger volumes of materials and inks to our growing customer base."
Woolston joins Plextronics most recently from Soladigm, a green technology start-up company in Santa Rosa, California, where he was vice president of operations. While there he managed all corporate operations, including pilot line engineering and the manufacturing of thin film electro-chromic glass.
Prior to Soladigm, Woolston spent 12 years in executive management at Applied Materials in Santa Clara, California. Most recently he was the head of development engineering for the solar control and flexible (roll-to-roll) coating businesses, which included development work on flexible photovoltaics.
As the vice president of operations at Plextronics, he will be responsible for polymers, inks and device manufacturing, and for the company's research and development lines.
Woolston holds a B.S. in biology from University of California at Davis and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Santa Clara University.
Hodo comes to Plextronics from LANXESS Corporation in Pittsburgh where he was responsible for managing corporate level quality programs and Lean Six Sigma projects supporting eight manufacturing sites, including internal auditing, performance tracking, business process improvement and training. Prior to that, he was a continual improvement manager at Bayer Polymers LLC, also in Pittsburgh, where he was responsible for managing continual improvement programs relating to customer service and operations for four business units.
Among his initial responsibilities as quality manager, Hodo will drive Plextronics' certification to the ISO 9001 quality standard and maximize supplier performance.
Hodo holds both a Master of Science degree in analytical chemistry and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas.
