On November 7, 2019, at CES Unveiled New York, PassiveBolt was named as the winner of a CES 2020 Innovation award in the highly competitive smart home category for their Shepherd Lock. Shepherd Lock is a keyless entry system with many features integrated into the smart surface using TactoTek IMSE technology. Shepherd Lock will be commercially available in early 2020. In Shepherd Lock, the IMSE part is a smart cover—a cosmetic surface that provides both structure and electronic functions. Molded within that IMSE part are printed electronics for circuitry, a capacitive touch control, contact pads for external connectivity and LEDs for illumination to indicate lock status.
"PassiveBolt is very honored to be recognized with the CES 2020 Innovation Award. This is a great validation of the value of our keyless entry technology for homeowners that brings convenience through touch commands and enhances security through sensors and AI," stated Kabir Maiga, PassiveBolt Co-Founder. "We worked closely with TactoTek engineers to execute on our design vision using IMSE technology and are very pleased with the result."
TactoTek's proprietary IMSE technology integrates printed electronics and electronic components within 3D injection molded structures to create thin, seamless, electronically active and economical smart molded structures. The company licenses IMSE technology to manufacturers who mass produce parts for their customers.
"PassiveBolt's success demonstrates their market-leading design vision and ability to realize that vision in their products. TactoTek is very proud to have Shepherd Lock as the first smart home product coming to market that integrates a smart surface built with IMSE technology," said Jussi Harvela, TactoTek CEO.
PassiveBolt is driving adoption of smart access products by offering its technology through white label solutions. PassiveBolt partners with home automation companies, security dealers, MDUs, builders, and other companies looking to commercialize their own branded smart access products, including cloud services. This approach allows PassiveBolt partners to resell their own branded smart locks while commanding higher margins and without the cost of in-house development.
