Turkish manufacturer Etox is to launch a pure electric version of their Zafer sports car.
With multiple pure electric concept sports cars, such as the Nissan Esflow, but few commercially available production models, the Zafer may be able to corner a market niche if its production comes to fruition, especially considering the substantial price differentiation compared to currently available vehicles. The Tesla Roadster from Tesla Motors outperforms in every way and retails at a fraction over $100,000, five times the price of the $20,000 Zafer. The Zafer is limited to 75mph, not the expected ability of a designer sports car like the Tesla or the planned Jaguar Supercar of Tesla Motors Europe. The Zafer is the first electric car to be entirely manufactured in Turkey and with a full charge has a 250 km range - interestingly much more than the typical 160 km of most of today's land sea and air pure EVs but not as good as the Tesla Roadster.
The planned release of this prototype is scheduled for May this year, however commercial availability is uncertain as the company waits for news on government funding. The original Etox was released in August 2007.
