The world's first three dimensional touch panel product, is being developed by Nissha and Unidym who will supply carbon nanotube-based products to Nissha for Nissha's three dimensional touch panels.
"The use of a flexible conductive film will allow us to remove design constraints and introduce new touch panel concepts," said Eiji Nakagawa, Deputy General Manager at Devices Business Unit of Nissha.
The companies have worked for several years on the process and now plan to jointly invest in product development and commercialization.
It is expected that the next generation of touch panel displays will be three dimensional or curved - the materials used will need to be robust and extensible while retaining their optical and electrical properties.
Prototypes were displayed at SID in 2010 and 2011.
