
In a determined bid to take the e-paper market lead, PVI has collaborated with LCD display manufacturer Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) who is looking to get a foothold in the industry.
The collaboration will enable PVI to provide cost-competitive products to customers in the face of rapid demand growth in the e-paper market. With the CMO's R&D capability and their 5G production line, the companies will be able to produce competitive TFT active-matrix substrate based on e-paper characteristics.
A study by NextGen Research pointed out that, the global e-reading device market, currently led by Amazon Kindle, would see a compound growth rate of 124% from 2008 to 2013. It is expected to reach US$2.5 billion by the end of 2013, underscoring its huge potential. Furthermore, e-paper products have been unaffected by the economic environment and have maintained stable growth, with brilliant sales performance amid the global financial crisis in 2008.
PVI claim to be the only company who has the ability to mass produce e-paper in what has become one of the hottest trends today. They see many international manufacturers preparing to jump on the bandwagon, hoping to get a share of the action. However, PVI has a clear advantage in the industry and understand how well they are positioned to keep one-step ahead. Their recent financial results showed September's revenue of $1.47 billion (a 9% increase M-o-M), hitting a historical high. PVI's quarterly revenue also reached historical high of $4.17 billion (unaudited) in the third quarter of 2009, up 47% Q-o-Q and 61% Y-o-Y.
Last year the company acquired Korean manufacturer Hydis, to obtain production capacity four times larger than itself. They are also in the process of purchasing the number one supplier for epaper technology -
