In the context of RFID, the license free frequencies above one GHz such as 2.45 GHz and 5.8 GHz. Ultra Wide Band RFID recently approved in the US also works at microwave frequencies. Because of the short wavelength, the antenna of a microwave tag is relatively small so the tag is relatively small.
