Glossary: Self assembly

The term self-assembly indicates that the molecules like to organize themselves in a densely packed state with a high degree of order. The term often refers to self ordering that is useful in the creation of printed electronic devices. An example is the use of hydrophobic and hydrophilic areas by Plastic logic in the creation of transistors with finer definition and therefore higher frequency performance than would have otherwise been achievable with the chosen printing technology, in this case ink jet printing.
