Emerging semiconductor laser technologies are transforming industrial material processing markets. During the past three decades, the average power of laser diodes has increased exponentially, while their average price has decreased exponentially. These incredible advances in semiconductor laser technology enable the development of direct diode lasers (DDLs), including high-power direct diode lasers (HPDDLs) that produce multi-kilowatt output power. The global market for direct diode lasers will reach a size of $2.033 billion by 2029.

Following dramatic improvements in laser power and beam quality, DDLs are emerging as a major global trend in industrial manufacturing. A key development is the rise of blue diode lasers for applications like welding and 3D printing copper, with key player Laserline (Germany) launching a 1 kW product in 2019. Blue laser light is faster and more efficient at processing metals like copper that are poor absorbers of conventional infrared laser radiation. Meanwhile, continued innovation in plastic welding technologies have revealed DDLs as rapidly evolving tools for manufacturing electronics, automotive parts, medical devices and textiles.

This webinar provides an overview of the following:
  • Technical introduction: DDL components, systems and operating principles
  • Material processing market: DDL market segments, key players, market forecast
  • Evolution of laser power, price and beam quality
  • Innovations in DDL technology for joining metals
  • Innovations in DDL technology for welding plastics and composites
  • Innovations in DDL technology for annealing semiconductors
  • Innovations in DDL technology for 3D printing metals

This webinar is based on the recent IDTechEx report titled Laser Diodes & Direct Diode Lasers 2019-2029. It is delivered by Dr Nilushi Wijeyasinghe, who is a technology analyst with prior experience in laser physics and semiconductor physics research.

We will be holding exactly the same webinar three times in one day. Please register for whichever session is most convenient for you.
