For a long time, the display market has been dominated by the liquid crystal display (LCD) technology. During the past ten years, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays have started to attract attention from the public, which are marketed as "more advanced display technologies", as they are providing better colour gamut, higher contrast/higher dynamic range, more slim design, possibility of various mechanical design such as flexible/foldable displays, with a number of other value propositions. While OLED suffers a number of limitations, such as life time, blue colours, size restrictions in large-scale applications and higher price. In addition, the supply chains based on LCD and OLED have been well established with heavy investment. It will be difficult for new players to join the game. Therefore, both from the demand and supply request, new display technologies are in demand.

IDTechEx Research has been analysing the technologies and markets for quantum dots (QDs) since 2013. Since that time, it has stayed extremely close to the latest research and market developments via its interview programme and company and conference visits.

As a unique type of materials which offers values in both photoluminescence and electroluminescence, QDs can be used in LCD displays to make premium products, and can be made into self-emissive displays. Interests in QD can be seen in their active material development and different integration methods.

The report "Quantum Dot Materials and Technologies 2020-2030: Trends, Markets, Players" covers the material analysis of QDs in various applications including displays, lighting, sensors and more beyond. While this webinar we want to just focus on one aspect, which is to combine QD with another popular display technology that is emerging recently, which is micro-LED displays. This webinar will give an introduction to QDs for micro-LED displays.

We will discuss the following:
  • Introduction to quantum dots
  • Value propositions of quantum dots
  • Integration methods of QDs for display applications
  • Comparison of QDs and phosphors
  • QDs for micro-LED displays

We will be holding exactly the same webinar three times in one day. Please register for the session most convenient for you.
