Golf carts with a solar powered charging system that charge the carts up during a game of golf are becoming more popular and can be used on and off the golf course. Quite simply, the solar cells covering the roof of the golf cart convert direct sunlight into electricity.
One company manufacturing these solar golf carts is Cruise Car Inc, who has a full line of 2-14 passenger solar electric transport solutions ideal for planned communities, golf courses, college campuses, municipalities, military bases, corporate parks, resorts and federal agencies. Cruise Car has recently developed a solar roof kit which will allow most popular golf carts to be converted to using solar power as their energy source.

"Due to the overwhelming response to our Cruise Car solar-electric vehicles, we decided to develop a conversion kit so golf cart owners around the country can solarise their vehicles," said Ken Chester, President of Cruise Car. These solar panels can generate up to 180 watts, 60 volts and supply a hefty 3 amps directly to a 36 or 48 volt battery. As long as the vehicle is in the sun, the battery is constantly recharging itself through the solar panel. The Solar Tops are designed to last for 20 years and require little maintenance.
Cruise Car has formed a business relationship with Universal Studios in Hollywood who has taken a major step toward going "green" by unveiling their intention to convert their fleet of 300 gas vehicles to Cruise Car's alternative energy Solar Electric Hybrid Vehicles. In the same way Ms. Ashley Van Dyke, race car driver and SPEED Channel cable TV personality, will feature Cruise Car solar electric hybrid vehicles and electric charging stations at racing venues all over the United States as a method of alternative energy transportation for commuting on and around racing venues. "We all know race cars need fuel to operate. What the solar electric hybrid Cruise Cars allow, is a method of getting from point A to point B at race tracks utilizing only the renewable energy of the sun," says Ms. Van Dyke.
