Tomorrow's Tech Using Ink-Jet Printed Graphene
Researchers have cracked the conundrum of how to use inks to 3D-print novel electronic devices with useful properties, such as an ability to convert light into electricity. The study shows that it is possible to jet inks, containing tiny flakes of 2D materials such as graphene, to build up and mesh together the different layers of these complex, customised structures.

Better-Performing 3D Electronics
Engineers have developed a faster, simpler 3D-printing technique to build electronics, trimming their manufacturing time from hours down to a few minutes. The method can be used to print electronics into complex shapes in volumes that could be used for antenna arrays, prosthetics, sensors and robots.

InnoLAE 2020
Innovations in Large Area Electronics 2020
IDTechEx attended InnoLAE 2020 (Innovations in Large-Area Electronics Conference), which is held each year just outside Cambridge, UK. The conference aims to 'bridges the gap between academia and industry', in the field of printed/large area/alternative electronics. Approximately half the attendees are from academia, with the rest from (primarily) small material suppliers and university spin-out companies.

Quantum dots: changing and expanding application landscape
Quantum dots (QD) are a success story in displays. The current incumbent mode of integration is film type (enhancement film). The value chain for this is well-established. The technology can be integrated in large displays (TVs) from 27" to 98". This article provides a brief look at multiple key applications.

In-Mold Electronics: challenges in every step?
Our report, In-Mold Electronics 2019-2029: Technology, Market Forecasts, Players, suggests that in-mold electronics can become a market larger than $750m by 2028. The market take-off will however occur only around 2023 or 2024, if not later. This is despite the fact that the technology has been in the making for many years. Indeed, first near-success in the automotive sector came as early as 2013/2014.
